da esport bet: After winning promotion to the Premier League, Reading will be hoping to emulate the successes of Swansea and Norwich, getting off to a good start and collecting as many points as possible in order to try and stay in the top tier of English football.
da brwin: Survival is always tough, and this season will be no different with the Premier League stronger than ever and no room for slip ups. With a fair bit of business being done in the transfer window and previous Premier League experience, the club and its fans will be quietly optimistic about staying up this season, and should they manage to pick up points during the vital periods of Christmas and Easter where the fixtures seem never ending, this is not beyond their reach.
Signing of the Summer –
Pavel Pogrebnyak might be a mouthful to say, but people better get used to it. The Russian is hands down the signing of the summer for the promoted club, with the fact he arrived on a free transfer making the deal all the sweeter – not to mention his Premier League experience from his successful stint at Fulham. A player that can provide moments of inspiration, he could well be the difference between losing a game and salvaging a point – something which is vital for survival at the highest level. The club have been busy, and former Newcastle player Danny Guthrie also arrived on a free and is one to keep an eye on, with decent ability and Premier League experience to boot.
One To Watch –
Turkish midfielder Jem Karacan was vital to the club last season before serious injury and will be looking to build on what he achieved in the Championship. Having skippered Turkey all through the youth levels the player is certainly one to watch and is being monitored by a host of clubs should his contract negotiations with the club stall.
Breakthrough of the Season –
There are a couple of contenders here, and no better place to start than with Simon Church. The young striker has represented Wales at international level and after a host of loan spells is finally starting to make an impact at his parent club. There is no better stage than the premier league to fully announce his arrival, and the player will be looking to do just that. New centre back signing Mariappa could also be a contender here, along with forward Hal Robson Kanu, who has the ability to score stunning goals and came through the highly rated youth academy at Reading.
What Will They End Up With?
Carling Cup – You never can tell with this trophy, especially if the ‘bigger’ clubs fail to take it seriously, and with the final fairly early being only midway through the season it could be a nice boost for the club to do well in the cup. A last 16 exit with bigger fish to fry for Reading.
FA Cup – As with the Carling cup, this is not really a priority for the club, and whilst a run in the FA cup would be nice to get momentum going and give the club something to look forward too, few fans will really care if the club suffer from an early exit. With survival paramount the club will crash out in the last 32.
Premier League – The only thing that will really matter to the club and its fans this season – survival, and with the league tougher than ever it is going to be a huge ask for Reading. They will be praying fellow promoted club Southampton struggle, not to mention Norwich and Swansea who did so well last time out. It will be a major struggle and the club will fail to escape the drop finishing 19th, being gone before the final day.
