While Romelu Lukaku remains Manchester United’s primary attacking threat, five of their ten Premier League goals this season have been either scored or supplied by substitutes – a massive endorsement of not only Jose Mourinho’s in-game decision-making but also the enormous depth available at Old Trafford.
That, however, has lead inevitably lead to a few selection dilemmas, particularly on the left wing where Mourinho has made his only change to the starting XI so far this season. While Marcus Rashford started United’s first two Premier League fixtures, Anthony Martial took his place on Saturday after bagging two goals and one assist from the bench.
You can’t ignore good form like that for too long, especially when the transfer window is still open. But curiously, the two attackers essentially reversed roles against Leicester at Old Trafford; the England international coming on to the break the deadlock before watching the Frenchman subbed off shortly after.
However, much like Rashford in the two outings prior, that shouldn’t take away from what was an impressive performance from the former Monaco man. Indeed, Martial was a constant threat down the left, creating the second-most chances, completing the second-most dribbles and whipping in the third-most crosses of any United player.
With Martial and Rashford both proving so effective off the bench, and with both very much benefiting from each others’ good work in grinding down defences before entering the fray, Mourinho has a real decision to make ahead of the Red Devils’ next Premier League clash.
So, United fans, who would you start against Stoke after the international break – Rashford, Martial or does Mourinho need to find room in his line-up for both? Let us know by voting below…
