da lvbet: Despite Everton’s indifferent start to the new campaign, it is safe to say that the Toffees will be in contention to break into the top four like they nearly did last season.
da poker: Ever since the departure of David Moyes, Spaniard Roberto Martinez has started where the former Manchester United gaffer left off.
However, despite having very little funds to work for such a big club, the Scotsman managed to pull off some signings that raised eyebrows. Maroune Fellaini is one example. The Bekgian played a massive role in the Everton midfield before moving to the Red Devils. Another player that has gone unnoticed, but is one of the most creative attackers in the Premier League, is Kevin Mirallas.
Making a £6m move from Greek outfit Olympiacos to Goodison Park, Mirallas is dangerous to any opposition full back. His record in Greece spoke for itself, scoring 34 goals in 52 appearances in the space of just two years. After starting off at French clubs Lille and St.Etienne, the Belgian international struggled to find his feet in Ligue 1.
However, Mirallas is now one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Merseysiders, and is pivotal for Everton’s push for a first Champions League place since 2005. With eight goals, as well as creating more assists than any other Everton player with eight, Mirallas played a fundamental part in spearheading Martinez’s side to a 5th place finish and bringing European football back to Goodison Park.
Mirallas can also play as a striker, but with his aim in the team to provide crosses for the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith, he may look worse than he actually is in that position. His creative impact will also be affected if he is deployed as a lone striker. However, there is no doubt that if and when he is selected as the striker, his goalscoring nouse will ensure the Toffees win many games this season.
With pace to burn and skill to admire, Mirallas’ one downfall is fitness. Niggling injuries throughout the season has been the one major downfall for the Belgian and, in his first season with the club, he only made 23 league appearances, scoring 6 goals and making 3 assists. He was also unfortunate to miss the end of last season through injury, and wanted to make sure he was fit ahead of playing in his first World Cup for his country.
The winger is a game changer for Everton. Whether it’s from a dead ball situation, or taking on the opposition at his own free will, the Belgian winger is scary to watch when he’s at his best with his breath taking skill. It’s a surprise that since his move to Everton and his eye catching performances, clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal haven’t made a move for Mirallas.
However, for the neutral and Evertonian, moving away from Merseyside would be a huge mistake for someone who is highly respected at a club with huge potential like Everton.
