da bet7: After three losses on the bounce, it’s fair to say that things aren’t looking quite as rosy for the Red Devils as they were a couple of weeks ago.
da stake casino: Comfortable victories over Bournemouth and Southampton followed by a resilient late win at Hull had fans dreaming of returning back to the glory days.
After being beaten 2-1 in the Manchester derby, however, United suffered shock losses to Feyenoord in Europe and Watford last weekend, leading to criticism for players like Wayne Rooney and record-signing Paul Pogba.
There has been one bright point this season, though; the form of young superstar Marcus Rashford.
After scoring from the bench against Hull, Rashford also found the net against Watford and has looked one of the United players capable of making things happen.
The breakout of Rashford can be seen as one of the positive from Louis van Gaal’s mixed reign at Old Trafford. Whatever the thoughts on his tactics and signings, the Dutchman always had one eye on United’s youth and handed starts to a number of academy players.
Here are five players United should be looking at handing game-time to this season…
TIMOTHY FOSU-MENSAH
A highly-rated 18-year-old, Fosu-Mensah was handed a new four-year contract last month and is surely in Jose Mourinho’s plans.
The young Dutchman was one of the players Louis van Gaal handed a debut to in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal in February, with the defender giving a good account of himself in his ten games last season.
Often turning in eye-catching performances for the reserves, Fosu-Mensah was expected to act as Antonio Valencia’s understudy. However, should the Ecuadorian continue to struggle with his final delivery, the Dutchman may find himself with a starting spot.
JOE RILEY
Another youngster who was handed his debut by Louis Van Gaal, Riley could find himself featuring more in the first team this season should United’s first teamers continue to underperform.
The left-back made his first start in United’s 5-1 drubbing of Midtjylland in the Europa League, and should concerns of Luke Shaw being sidelined for a few weeks come true, the 19-year-old will be battling with Matteo Darmian for the first-team spot.
Riley not only has the advantage of being naturally left-footed but would also be able to contribute to the attack having started as a midfielder.
ROSHAUN WILLIAMS
Despite only being 17, RoShaun Williams has already adapted to U21 football and will be hoping to appear in the first team sooner rather than later.
The defender came to prominence last season when he turned in a superb performance against a Manchester City U21s that contained a number of players who had appeared for the first team, such as Manu Garcia.
While United don’t need another centre-back, his athleticism and touch could come in handy should United become desperate for someone defensive to play next to (or behind) Pogba.
AXEL TUANZEBE
Another centre-back who can play in defensive midfield, Axel Tuanzebe would probably be one of the more well-known Manchester United youngsters had it not been for injury.
The Congo-born starlet was actually the first academy player promoted to the first team, four months before Marcus Rashford, but ended up sidelined for months before he could make his bow.
Mourinho has reportedly already earmarked him as someone who can make the first team within a couple of years, but Tuanzebe will be hoping to accelerate that and make up for lost time.
CALLUM GRIBBIN
Arguably the most exciting youngster on this list, 17-year-old Callum Gribbin has already been dubbed one of the club’s best young talents.
Gribbin, who scored a stunning solo effort against Barcelona’s U19s in the summer, has already been likened to Lionel Messi due to his low centre of gravity and ability to slalom through defences.
If he works hard and fulfils his potential, United could build their side around players like Gribbin and Rashford.
In the meantime, should United be missing some spark or guile in tight games, they can do a lot worse than call on this electric talent.
