What did he say?
The Germany international signed for Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen in June of last year, and has since made 40 appearances for the Gunners.
He has started each of the first four Premier League games this term, and former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has said that the 27-year-old is turning into one of the best shot-stoppers in England’s top-tier.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Bent said:
“I think he’s developing well, I thought he was a good goalkeeper anyway but he’s turned into one of the best in the league at the minute. He’s really consistent.
“He’s good with his feet and is perfect for the way Arsenal want to play. They make me a bit nervous when they try to play out from the back but other than that they’re pretty good.

Bent correct but improvements still needed
Bent is right that Leno’s one of the best in the Premier League. Last season, he made 158 saves at a percentage of 71.6%, which put him in spot six and spot five in the Premier League respectively.
Considering how Arsenal tend to dominate their opponents – meaning the goalkeeper can be dwindling his thumbs for long periods at times – that return shows impressive concentration.
Likewise, only two goalkeepers, Ederson and Kepa Arrizabalaga, have a higher pass accuracy this season, so his ability on the ball is something he clearly has in his locker, and that’s becoming more important than ever before in the modern game.
However, there are still improvements to be made. In the north London derby against Tottenham, his poor save from Erik Lamela’s shot was pushed straight to Christian Eriksen, who was able to tap into an open net. And errors are a regular trait of his, it seems. Last season, he made the most that led to goals in the Premier League with five.
If Leno wishes to go from being one of the best in the division to being the arguably very best, those sloppy errors need to be eradicated from his game as much as possible.
